Affirmation: I Am Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Rest assured that you and fearfully and wonderfully made.

The month of May has become a somewhat challenging month for me since the passing of my mother. Annually, Mother’s Day is celebrated, and while it is a joyous moment for some, there is a group of us who are not always feeling so joyous about this day. Second, my mother’s birthday is celebrated this month, typically pretty close if not on Mother’s Day. Naturally, I become emotional, moody, and just reserved during this time frame.

As I came up with this month’s affirmation I did it in honor of my mom because she was truly fearfully and wonderfully made. While I thought I was paying homage to her with this popular bible quote, I now know God needed me to be reminded of this during this month to help me push through all of the emotions I encounter during this time of year. How beautiful is it to be reminded that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, even with each of our uniqueness?

When I read the quote ‘I am fearfully and wonderfully made’ I received confirmation that first, I am perfect just the way I am because God intended to make me exactly how he did, this is true for you too. Additionally, this quote almost seems like it should have additional text to complete the sentence. As if God wants us to fill in the blanks such as ‘ I am fearfully and wonderfully made because I woke up this morning’, or ‘because I am a great mother,’ or ‘because I am constantly working on myself,’ or whatever it is that makes you recognize the fearful and wonderful parts of you! I feel motivated when I read this quote because in my mind I know that if God intentionally made me fearfully and wonderfully then there is nothing I can’t handle through Jesus Christ.

I feel empowered knowing that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I feel empowered knowing that my mom was fearfully and wonderfully made even through the obstacles she encountered on Earth. There is so much beauty and strength in knowing we are fearfully and wonderfully made and I want to remind each of us of that. No matter what obstacles we encounter, the not-so-good things we’ve done in life, or no matter the current circumstance we may find ourselves in, God wants all of us to know that we are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made.
